Disclosure Requirements of Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 Senate Bill 580

 SERVICE AND SECURITY TO OUR COMMUNITY

 POLICY ON CRIME:

 Mid-America works in conjunction with  the local law enforcement agencies to provide a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and community members.  It is the policy of this institution to gather information regarding a crime and secure the appropriate assistance of law enforcement agencies and/or site authorities.  

 REPORTING ON CRIME:

Crime victims, regardless of the seeming insignificance of the crime are encouraged to preserve all of the evidence, and to report the incident to the Administration Office in person or by phone.  An official report will be taken and copies will be made available to the victim.  Efforts to investigate the situation will be made at the appropriate agency level.

ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE POLICY:

Mid-America’s Drug Free Campus and Workplace policy provides factual

information about the dangers of drug and alcohol use, and prohibits the unlawful use, possession, distribution, or dispensing of any controlled substances.  Violation of this policy is grounds for disciplinary actions as outlined in the Student Information Bulletin.  Such violations may result in immediate employee disciplinary actions.  Federal and state laws provide additional penalties for such unlawful activities, including fines and imprisonment.

CRIME PREVENTION:

Mid-America has initiated several practices aimed at reducing and preventing crime on campus.  Such notable efforts include:

B.  Student Assemblies
C.  Building and Parking Lot Monitors
D.  Twenty-Four Hour Security 
E.  Accessibility to Alcohol/Drug Counseling

TIPS TO AVOID VICTIMIZATION:

The following suggestions are for the personal safety of students, employees, and community members:

Report strangers to a school employee.

Do not hesitate to call campus authorities or local police.  

When parking, remove valuables from plain view.

Avoid getting into no-exit places.  

At night,  always walk in groups of two or more. 

Report all incidents immediately.
