PLAN OF STUDY

1ST YEAR

 

The first year of training will consist of the administration and information support training programs:

 

                Fundamentals of Administrative Technology

                Office Administration & Management

 

2nd YEAR

 

The second year of training students will choose two of the following career cluster training programs: 

           

Administration and Information Support-Legal Office

Administration and Information Support-Medical Office

Advanced Programming-Java

Business, Financial Management & Accounting

Database Administration- Oracle Data Modeling/SQL

Interactive Media-Video Editing/Production

Management-Entrepreneurship

OBJECTIVE

 

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to identify basic computer components and skillfully use terminology, operating systems, and software applications

 

To provide the personal skills and professional tools that will enhance your opportunities gain and maintain productive employment.

 

To provide you with a professional understanding of the business environment, customer service, and team membership.

 

To provide you with the skills necessary for nationally recognized certification.

 

LEARNER OUTCOMES

 

The competencies needed for success in this program are identified  in the ODCTE career clusters, specific learning competencies and required certifications. Students will develop leadership skills by participation in Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter activities.

 

ASSESSMENTS and GRADES

 

Your work will be assessed using a variety of assessment methods.  Each participant is responsible for assuring that all assigned activities are satisfactorily completed within the specified timelines and to the standard of quality described on the evaluation criteria for each activity. Your final course grade will be determined by applying these assessments  to your performance.

 

Your grade will be based on the following grading scale as approved by the Mid-America Board of Education:

 

                                                A—90 to 100%

                                                B—80 to 89%

                                                C—70 to 79%

                                                D—60 to 69%

                                                F—Below 60%

 

*       Students must have an overall average of 70% to be eligible for a Business Information Technology Completion Certificate.

 

***  Students must pass nationally recognized assessments. (See ODCTE lists of Required Certifications.)

 

ATTENDANCE

 

The success of a business depends on its employees’ dependability and productivity.  Attending every day that school is in session is very important. Therefore, Mid-America Technology Center has developed a system that will reward you for your attendance and accounts for one-fourth (25%) of your grade.

 

ON-THE-JOB TRAINING

 

Students in their fourth semester of training may be eligible for On-The-Job Training (OJT).  Instructors will determine each student’s eligibility for OJT by considering four areas:  (1) grades (2) attendance (3) attitude (4) professional dress and (5) appropriateness of the training and  the training site.

 

COLLEGE CREDIT

 

Mid-America Technology Center has established an agreement for receiving college credit for certain coursework you complete during the Business Information Technology Program.  College credit is available at Oklahoma City Community College. 

 

STUDENT DRESS CODE

Businesses are judged by the appearance and conduct of employees. In a like manner, a school is judged many times by the actions and appearance of students.  Students are expected to dress in social good taste and in accordance with the occupation they are pursuing. Wearing of caps and hats is prohibited in the front halls and lounge of the main building. Flip-flops are discouraged and house shoes are not allowed.  Hem line of shorts or skirts must reach below fingertips.  Tank tops and spaghetti straps are not allowed.  Please refer to the student  handbook for additional requirements.

 

The Business Information Technology professional dress day is each Wednesday. You will receive a weekly grade based on the points awarded on your professional dress.  At  the end of each nine weeks your average professional-dress grade will constitute five percent (5%) of your total grade.
